PADNAmonium
Yes, I know there has been some PAD bias on the site lately -- they have soo much going on those busy bees! But the PADNA (Powerhouse Arts District Neighborhood Association) is really a neighborhood association that the whole city should be involved in. The historic buildings and cobblestone streets are some of the oldest in our city and the struggles they have faced are of interest to all JC residents. Show your support and thanks for all they do to preserve an arts district in JC by attending their fundraiser:

Subia's Organic Cafe + Market
I have been a vegetarian for 10 years now and there have only been a few spots in those 10 years that I have been a big fan of. Subia's has the most delicious veggie burgers, veggie spicy buffalo wings. I am very much addicted. They also sell organic produce, supplements and more. If you aren't already a fan -- definitely worth checking out!

City Vino
If you haven't made a trip to City Vino, I would definitely recommend dropping by. We went one night and were feeling rather anti-social -- we hesitated to sit at one of the communal tables but within 15 minutes we had conversations going with our neighbors and more importantly, we were enjoying some amazing wine and tapas. The kitchen and dining room is small, but cozy. The menu is full of surprising dishes that are absolutely delicious and the wine selection is unlike any other in Jersey City.
The amazing menu is the work of Lucia Calvete and Daniel Castano. Lucia is a graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City and was a Chef in the prestigious Nobu Restaurant in Tribeca. Daniel Castano, a graduate of the French Culinary Institute, was an Executive Chef for the Mario Batali Group and worked at restaurants such as Babbo, Lupa, Otto, Casa Mono, Bar Jamon, Del Posto, Esca, and for Italian Wine Merchants. Sommelier and owner Miguel Viacava, selected the extensive wine list which boasts wines of both quality and value.

Regime Change at The Corkscrew

Word comes from Joe Condiracci: The changes that made Corkscrew one of the best things to happen to JC Heights in the past year or so (ie, live bands, good djs, etc.) have been nullified.
Via the Corkscrew on MySpace:
"In another of a laundry list of bad ideas, this bar owner has decided to hire someone Luke and I had banned to take over The Corkscrew and turn it back into the drug ridden, half-assed excuse for a sports bar it was failing as before we got there...go figure.
In any event, we had a good run here for a while, and seemed to be beating what were some pretty impossible odds as far as what that neighborhood had come to expect from a place of that ilk. It was fun while it lasted. I think it is safe to say we were a little bit ahead of our time for that corner of the world.
Needless to say all bands, Dj's and other talent I had lined up for this venue got fired with me. You aren't wanted here either it seems.
Another JC live venue bites the dust. It will be missed.
